Anoo Banoo (we came here)

Anoo Banoo comprises of a series of textile works, photographs and videos which examine the historical construction of Israeli identity by looking at early zionist posters and propagandas. In the work, three generation of women participate in  a series of actions and imitations, taking on the guise of archetypical figures of pioneers. The pivotal role such figures claim in the collective memory is deconstructed here as a play of interconnections between the body, its labour and the land. Through the cross generational engagement with this local history, the work examines the remnants of embodied knowledge as it questions the female position within the production of the national body.
